Preparing equipment for on-site inspection

Good preparation reduces on-site inspection time and helps avoid a repeat visit. Before the inspector arrives, define the scope, prepare the equipment and provide safe access.

From the workshop to on-site inspection

Prepare an equipment register

List the equipment type, identification number, rated capacity, location and previous inspection date. If no register exists, start by grouping equipment by work area and category.

Equipment and documentation

  • clean surfaces, identification markings and potential defect areas
  • make equipment records and previous reports available
  • take equipment out of service according to an agreed schedule
  • prepare power supplies and test loads where required
  • appoint a site representative

A safe working area

Barrier off the inspection and testing area, prevent unrelated traffic and agree the permit to work. After inspection, the customer receives a clear outcome for each item: accepted, observations recorded, repair required or withdrawn from service.
